Teri Coffie-McDuffie

Teri Coffee-McDuffie was born and raised in San Francisco, California. It was a childhood surrounded by diversity, many cultures and philosophies. Loving sports and being active, she joined her high school tennis team to satisfy her competitive spirit. In Teri’s pre-teens her family moved to Santa Barbara, making U.C.S.B. an easy choice for college, where she graduated with a B.A. degree in Sociology .

At the age of 24, she began training in Soo Bahk Do Moo Duk Kwan at Jang’s Karate Center in Santa Barbara, and is still there 29 years later. Several years later, feeling more confidently powerful and effective she developed a Self Defense program for women of all ages who may not have had the opportunity or time to learn a full Martial Arts curriculum, but needed ways to strengthen their mental and physical strengths and abilities.

During this time Teri managed a photo lab in a downtown store for many years. She always enjoyed staying connected to her Martial Arts family and friends of the studio Self Defense Class. In 1997 she decided to develop a Business of sharing self defense to and even larger community and opened the doors of Santa Barbara Women’s Self Defense.
